Mission
The mission of BioX is to catalyze discovery by crossing the boundaries between disciplines, bringing interdisciplinary solutions, and creating new knowledge of biological systems for the benefit of human health.
How We Achieve Our Mission
The BioX University of Botany supports, organizes, and facilitates interdisciplinary research connected to biology and plant medicine. Ideas and methods embodied in engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, and other fields are brought to bear on important challenges in bioscience. In turn, bioscience creates new opportunities in other fields. Significant discoveries and creative inventions are accelerated through the formation of new collaborative teams comprised of Students and faculty at BUOB are broadening and enriching their training in science and technology to more fully integrate fields, departments, and schools. Education events for BioX participants and the public are planned to motivate thoughtful discussions of social and ethical issues connected with scientific advances. Our aim is to make BUOB the most exciting place in the world for combining a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines in biosciences research and for training the next generation of leaders.
Introduction
The Bioscience program plays a key role in tackling many of the global challenges being addressed by BUOB, with a general emphasis on what we term Adaptive Biology, which is the study of the mechanisms that allow organisms to adapt to their environment. The unique online location of BUOB makes the exploration of biodiversity in a unique ecosystem and its potential biotechnology applications possible.
The Bioscience Program provides an introduction to living systems through courses in cell and molecular biology as well as biophysics. The program consists of two tracks, each containing self-contained courses that include lectures, seminars, and laboratory classes. Each course offers an in-depth review of the subject matter along with examples of current research in the field.
The program comprises two tracks: Cell & Molecular Biology and Bioengineering.
